Julie Nicholls: Fan-fiction to Self-Published

Indie author Julie Nicholls has self-published a variety of genres writing from her quiet village in the mountains of Bulgaria. She is currently expanding her writing into the young adult genre with her latest novel.

“I wanted to get a message to the youth of today, and I feel with this story, it just might work,” said Nicholls.

Nicholls has self-published all of her own work. She has submitted her current YA work to Amazon Kindle Scout to be considered for publishing. Through Kindle Scout readers will decide which of the selected novels Kindle Press will publish, and receive a book deal.

In her retirement Nicholls is a full time writer, and digital artist. Nicholls has self-published six works of her own. She has written in genres Fantasy Romance, New Adult Romance, Erotica, and coming soon Young Adult.

“My writing career started with Fanfiction. I had an obsession with a certain actor, and my first stories were centered on his characters,” said Nicholls. “I’ve always had the ability to spin a good yarn, as they say, even at school my essays were not run of the mill.”

The escape that comes to many authors when writing is what Nicholls loves most.

“I get lost. Literally. I can’t focus on anything because I live in the world that I’m creating.”

Nicholls never imagined she would publish her work until she discovered Amazon Kindle as a way to self-publish work.

“I had the idea, started writing it down, and up it went. I will admit I had no understanding of how it (self-publishing) all worked. I later had that story, and the subsequent books in the series, re edited,” said Nicholls.

Nicholls spreads light on the work and talent that it takes to self-publish in the indie author world.

“Indie authors are not the dregs of the book world. An indie author has to work twice as hard at creating a story, because we don’t have the luxury of a publishing contract where there are almost certainly a high number of sales guaranteed.”

As a self-published ebook author on Amazon Kindle Nicholls knows ways that readers can help the indie community.

“Please leave a review! This is so important for us, the more reviews we receive on our books, the better chances we have of making a few more sales, and also Amazon will include our books in their advertisements,” said Nicholls.

Nicholls plans to continue in her writing career. She would love to have a best-selling work, and see one of her works on the big screen.
